Abstract: In a confessional, a parishioner talks to Father James about his childhood sexual abuse by a priest. He says he will kill James the next Sunday, because James is a good man and it would be worse and more disconcerting for the Catholic Church than killing a bad priest; in any case the offender has already died. James' daughter Fiona comes to visit from London after attempting suicide. She becomes closer to him but is still upset that he abandoned her after her mother's death to become a priest. James hears that local butcher Jack Brennan is beating his wife Veronica and goes to confront him. Jack denies it and says he believes Veronica's Ivorian lover Simon is the culprit.. Abstract: Ein gutherziger, irischer Priester, die Sünden anderer und das unumgängliche Versprechen eines seiner Schützlinge „Am Sonntag bist du tot“. Eigentlich will Dorfpriester James Lavelle (Brendan Gleeson) doch nur, dass es allen Menschen in seinem Provinznest an der irischen Küste gut geht. Doch seine Gemeinde schockt ihn regelmäßig durch ihren Hass und ihre Streitlust. Eines Tages, als der Geistliche die Beichte abnimmt, droht ihm eines seiner Schäfchen: „Am Sonntag bist du tot.“ Nicht, dass der unbescholtene Priester etwas ausgefressen hätte. Er soll stellvertretend für einen anderen katholischen Priester sterben, der dem Gläubigen früher Schlimmes angetan hat, aber nicht mehr lebt. Immerhin hat sich vor knapp 2000 Jahren ja auch Jesus Christus für die Sünden der Menschheit geopfert und schuldlos auf dem Hügel Golgatha kreuzigen lassen. Das Beichtgeheimnis hindert den Priester daran, die Polizei einzuschalten. Also muss er sich selbst auf die Suche nach seinem zukünftigen Mörder machen. Eine turbulente Woche vergeht wie im Flug.
