Abstract: Willie, un trentenne ex-ungherese ormai perfettamente integrato a New York, si vede arrivare a casa la cugina Eva Molnar, a lui sconosciuta, partita da Budapest con destinazione presso la vecchia zia Lotte a Cleveland. La zia essendo malata, la ragazza passerà una decina di giorni nella stanzuccia di Willie. Willie è grande amico di Eddie, che viene presentato ad Eva, la quale fa presto ad avere un panorama più che desolante della tanto sospirata America. Finalmente Eva raggiunge Lotte. Un anno dopo, Willie ed Eddie, avendo vinto al gioco (che costituisce con le scommesse alle corse la loro normale fonte di guadagno) decidono di andare a trovare la ragazza, che vive con la zia e fa la cameriera in un modesto "snack". Passati insieme alcuni giorni, tra cinema e partitelle casalinghe, i due amici pensano di recarsi in Florida a prendersi un po' di sole ed a puntare su qualche buon cavallo. Si portano via Eva, lieta dell'inaspettata vacanza. Ma in Florida fa freddo, il mare è grigio e per di piu' Willie, questa volta mal consigliato dall'amico, perde tutti i soldi alle corse dei cani. Eva, uscita dal "motel", viene per strada bizzarramente scambiata per un'altra ragazza (che funge da corriere in affari poco puliti) e si ritrova così in mano un bel mucchio di dollari. Lascia allora un biglietto e un po' di soldi ai due amici e va all'aeroporto dove c'è un aereo in partenza giusto per Budapest. Willie ed Eddie sono colpiti dalla partenza di Eva, ma tornano a scommettere (questa volta sui cavalli) e vincono. Willie si precipita all'aeroporto, acquista un biglietto per l'Ungheria, unicamente per poter salire a bordo dell'aereo e convincere Eva a restare in America. Ma Eva è discesa a terra pochi istanti prima: la sua decisione di tornare dai due amici l'ha presa liberamente. Sarà così Willie a partire inopinatamente per Budapest (Cinematografo)
