Abstract: Einst war Cheyenne (Sean Penn) ein gefeierter Rockstar. Jetzt ist er 50 Jahre alt und sieht immer noch so aus wie damals, ein Goth mit schwarzen, toupierten Haaren, weiß geschminktem Gesicht und rotem Lippenstift. Seit Jahren lebt er zurückgezogen mit seiner Frau Jane (Frances McDormand) in einer Villa in Dublin, immer sachte schwankend zwischen gepflegter Langeweile und nagender Depression. Der Tod seines Vaters, mit dem er seit 30 Jahren nicht gesprochen hat, führt ihn zurück nach New York. Dort erfährt er von der Besessenheit seines Vaters: Rache zu nehmen für eine schwerwiegende Demütigung, die er erfahren musste. Cheyenne beschließt, die Suche seines Vaters fortzuführen. Abstract: On a small Erin isle in the early 1920s, folk musician Colm Doherty (Brendan Gleeson) decided he was weary of the company of longtime, affable but dull drinking buddy Pádraic Súilleabháin (Colin Farrell)-and told him so. The hurt Pádraic's insistent efforts to get back in Colm's good graces take a series of bizarrely violent turns that put their tiny community up in arms.
