Abstract: Level 9 books are similar in complexity to level 8, with strong patterns and similar events and episodes. Non-fiction titles use non-fiction tools including signs, labels, captions and diagrams where necessary. Single-word spacing is used from level 9 upwards. Abstract: Der kleine Ziad lebt in Palästina und besucht liebend gern die Giraffen im Zoo. Als nach einem israelischen Luftangriff die männliche Giraffe stirbt, verweigert das Weibchen die Nahrung. Ihr Zustand verschlechtert sich zunehmends. Ziads Vater, der immer für den Zoo gekämpft hat, versucht nun einen Partner für das Giraffenweibchen zu finden. Das einzig in Frage kommende Männchen lebt allerdings im Ramat Gan Safari Park, und der liegt in Israel.. Manchmal braucht es die Übersicht einer Giraffe oder die Perspektive eines Kindes um den Wahnsinn einer trennenden Mauer zu überwinden. Der naive Glaube und die ohnmächtige Trauer Ziads lassen seinen Vater so über sich hinauswachsen, dass er eine Giraffe aus Israel entführt, um sie nach Palästina zu schmuggeln.
