Abstract: Alice fährt zur See. Während Félix, ihr Freund auf dem Festland zurückbleibt, arbeitet sie als zweite Mechanikerin auf einem Frachtschiff. Schon bald merkt Alice, dass das Sprichwort "Was auf dem Meer geschieht, bleibt auf dem Meer" nicht stimmen kann. Dass sie ihre erste Fahrt nach ihrer Ausbildung ausgerechnet auf der Fidelio unter ihrer ehemaligen großen Liebe, dem Ersten Offizier Gaël antritt, hat Folgen. Die alten Gefühle brechen wieder auf und beide haben eine leidenschaftliche Affäre miteinander. Aber kann diese Liebe Bestand haben, wenn auf beide an Land ein anderer Partner wartet und auf See die Verhaltensnorm der ungebundenen Freiheit auf ihnen lastet? Alice liebt das Meer und seine unendliche Weite, spürt aber auch, dass die Freiheit ihre Grenzen hat.
